Build quality is second-rate in places, so 20 years on you鈥檒l want to hunt one down that鈥檚 been through the hands of a cherisher - and they鈥檙e out there. But although a 500cc twin was displayed at the Daytona Show in the US in March 1965, neither that bike nor the 700cc prototype that followed two years later reached production. Ducati worked fast. Taglioni鈥檚 design was finished by March 1970, the first engine was being tested four months later, and it was so impressive and trouble-free that by September a complete bike was ready to be unveiled to the press. At 185kg dry the Ducati GT750 was 15kg heavier than the prototype, but considerably lighter than the 67 HP Honda CB750 four. Honda had recently introduced the CB750 Four, and fortunately Ducati鈥檚 new management team not only saw the need for a 750cc model, but also realised that it needed to be something special rather than another parallel twin. The 748cc motor had conventional coil valve springs instead of the Desmo layout that Taglioni had already introduced on some racing singles, and produced a claimed 60 HP at 8000 RPM. Powering the Honda Forza 125 is a 125cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, single-cylinder motor churning out 14.5PS of maximum power and peak torque of 12Nm. Power is transmitted to the rear-wheel via a CVT transmission.
On the Indian context, it is unlikely that the Forza 125 will most head to our market but given the fact that Hero is planning to launch the ZIR maxi-scooter next year, the Forza can be an able competitor. It will replace the Honda CB Trigger from the Indian market. The Honda Forza 125 will be offered in the following shades of Matt Pearl Cool White with Matt Pacific Blue, Pearl Nightstar Black with Castagna Brown and Moondust Silver with Matt Cynos Grey. The FS had a two-piece stacked seat, different cams and valves (for better race tuning), a lighter flywheel, an extra clutch plate, and black frame and swingarm. The front of the tank has a recess for the main frame rail and the radius at the front of the tank has to blend with the recess. The effect of the L-motor鈥檚 inevitable length was minimised by the way the front cylinder head fitted between the downtubes of the tubular steel frame.
We had to be revived with smelling salts when we investigated what original Z1s and Z1000s are making these days, but there is another way - the Kawasaki Z650. Honda鈥檚 CBR600F was always a hard act to follow, but in the mid-鈥?0s Kawasaki edged ahead in the eyes of many with the brilliant ZX-6R. In one respect the Kawasaki 650 is actually superior to its bigger brethren. Throughout the years, Honda has been known for its innovative vehicle designs and superior performance. With just a single disc up front, the Ducati GT750's braking ability didn鈥檛 live up to its cornering performance. Ducati had long been aiming to produce a twin, but not with cylinders in a Vee. Meanwhile Honda launched the CB450 twin, whose arrival helped ensure that an improved 500cc Ducati parallel twin was met with little enthusiasm by the Italian firm鈥檚 dealers in the vital US market. By this time Ducati was in financial trouble, and in 1969 the firm was taken over by the Italian government. I spent most of my time driving a Borrego with the base 3.8-liter V-6 engine, and came away thoroughly impressed with both the power and refinement that this drivetrain offers.

It could be argued that, of all the hundreds of models that Ducati has produced since the marque began bike production in the mid-1940s, the model that started the V-twin line is the most important of all. The firm had raced parallel twins in the 1950s, and in the mid-1960s developed a succession of larger engined parallel twins, with the aim of creating a roadster to compete with dominant British models.
